The Skyland shopping center at Alabama Avenue and Good Hope Road SE is being redeveloped into a town center that will include 279 square feet of retail with structured parking and 475 residential units in a town square configuration.  The $106 million project will feature retail on the ground floor with three- and four-story residential units above.  Structured and ground level parking will provide nearly 1,800 parking spaces. The development team includes lead developer Rappaport Companies, William C. Smith & Co., Harrison-Malone Development, Washington East Foundation and Marshall Heights Community Development Organization.

WCS Construction, LLC is providing value engineering, budgets and pre-construction services. Construction will start in 2011. Skyland Town Center will include 180,000 SF of retail space.

The project will be LEED certified and will utilize tax-increment financing and New Market Tax Credits. The project will exemplify how public-private partnerships can dramatically revitalize neighborhoods. The project is currently in for PUD approval.
